| | The history of the Doorses, musical group American rock, has beginning in 1965 to succession of the I meet between Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek, both students of the faculty of cinematography to the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles). Besides the passion for the cinema, the two discovered to also have in common that for the music: Ray in fact it was a musician and it belonged to a band musical call "Rick and The Raven", while Jim loved to write poetries and texts for songs, that its musical inexperience prevented him from translating in music. Ray recognized in Morrison of the great potentialities and proposed him to form a new musical group; it engaged two friends of his musicians, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, that played in a called group "The Psychedelic Rangers", and the four gave so life to the band. Formation was the following: Jim soloist voice, Robby to the guitar, John to the battery, Ray to the keyboard. A bassista missed to the appeal but for the four, among which a great understanding immediately was created, it was not easy to find an element to insert in the group. This way Manzarek, gifted tastierista, definite to adapt in that role replacing the lower part with a Plain Fender Rhodes Bass to be able to manage together with the keyboard. The name of the group was select from Morrison from a sentence of William Blake: "If the Doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to hand as it truly is: endless", or "If the doors of the perception were wide open, every thing would really appear to the man as it is: endless." The texts of their songs will be very influenced by the writings of William Blake, as from those of the beat generation, of Aldous Huxley, Friedrich Nietzsche and of the accursed poets. The Doorses started their career playing in the places in Los Angeles, among which the famous one Whiskey-to-go-go, but well soon, in 1966, you/they were engaged from the record house Elektra and so in January of 1967 theirs went out first album: "The Doors." Despite the nonconformist attitude in comparison to the musical groups then in fashion in America, that you/they professed love and peace, the Doorses that talked to sex's public, drug and death, knew immediately an enormous success and a rapids ascent in the musical classifications that it lasted for the whole quadriennium 1966/1969, during which were published "Strange Days" (1967), "Waiting for the sun" (1968) and "The Soft Parade" (1969). The principal reasons for their success were undoubtedly the strong charisma of Morrison, undisputed leader of the group, whose poetic and whose charm catalizzavano the attention of the public and the originality of their music. The heterogeneity of the components of the band gave life, in fact, to an unpublished musical formula entirely: a rock blues psychedelic often influenced from the Latin stamps of the guitar of Krieger and from the rhythms jazz of Densmoore; besides the lack of a lower part and the keyboards played only on tall octaves contributed to characterize the musical stamp of the band. To this memorable ascent it followed nevertheless an as many express due decline to a large extent to the dependence of alcohol Morrison and drugs, dependence that influenced both the recordings and the exhibitions live, during which was arrested often for disorders and obscenity. Memorable the concert that the Doorses held in Miami in March of 1969 stays when Morrison, under the effect of drugs, with provocative spirit it showed the genital ones to the public; the band seriously went out by this episode, to the point to be excluded by the concert of Woodstock. The group decided so to pick up him a break of reflection and Jim moved in Paris together with the companion Pamela Courson. In the meantime you/they were published "Morrison Hotel" (1970) and "L.To. Woman" (1971). July 3 rd 1971, Jim, to alone 27 years, you/he/she was found dead in the bathtub of his/her apartment in Paris; the official diagnosis was cardiac arrest that unofficial overdose of heroin. The death of Morrison has remained however always wound in the mystery; many sustain that he in reality is still alive and that its death has been only 37 years ago a fitting from him staged for escaping to the pressure of the popularity and way of living in the loneliness of its poetry. After the death of Jim, the other members of the group engraved two albums: "Other Voices" (1971) and "Full Circle" (1972), but not succeeding in receiving the same success had with Jim they decided to loosen the group and to undertake soloist careers. In 1978, six years after the breakup of the group, Manzarek, Krieger and Densmore gathered him to record "An American Prayer", realized album overlapping the voice of Morrison, drawn by a 1970 recording in which performance some poetries of his, to the music from them compote for the occasion. The music of the Doorses has had a great influence in the history of the music rock and still today in the world you/they are sold every year a million copies of their disks. | |
