THE RS.And.M. they are formed in 1980 to the university of Athens, Georgia. Once discovered his/her own musical affinities, the singer Michael Stipe and the guitarist Peter Buck gives life to a musical project also involving the bassista Mike Mills and the drummer Peter Mills. After having adopted the name Twisted Kites the band it opts for the most accessible R.And.M., or rather the acronym of Rapid Eye Movement, the phase of the sleep in which the eyes quickly stir.
Following the recording of the first individual, "Radio Free Europe", formation attracts the attention of the label Irs Vintage that it puts under contracts the group. In 1982 it goes out so the first Ep "Chronic Town" to which follows, in 1983, the good album of debut "Murmur", perfect mixture among the incisive guitars of Buck and the voice of Stipe, that it doesn't receive a great commercial success but you/he/she is hailed by the criticism. Also with the two following jobs, "Reckoning" and "Fables of the Reconstruction", the Rs.And.M. they don't succeed in breaking down to level of sales but the things they change with the fourth album, "Lifes Rich Pageant", that becomes gold disk with over 500.000 sold copies. In 1987 it is the time of the great leap with "Document", that contains the unforgettable hitses "One I Love" and "It's The End of the world As we know it."
Become a reality of the panorama international rock, the Rs.And.M. to this point they are forced to surrender to the flatteries of a major, the Warner, not without before having verified to enjoy some complete and total artistic liberty. The first disk to go out under the new label is "Green", of 1988, in which the quartet shows not to have lost his/her own artistic lucidity sfornando you mock of everything respect as the fresh one "Pop Song 89" or the melancholy one "The Remember California." The year of the great jump however it is 1991, with the album "Out Of Time" that it contains what will become their hymn for excellence, "Losing My religion."
After the 15 million of copies sold with "Out Of Time" the following year the band, as if he/she wanted to run away from the uproarious success rained on him, public an album from the darkest sonorities, "Automatic for the people." The result however it is always positive, with songs of high-level as "Drive", "Hand Of The Moon" and the yearning one "Everybody Hurts", entered by now the legend.
After a job of the kind, the Rs.And.M. they surprise two years later with the publication of "Monster", the roughest disk of their career, characterized by bossy guitars in full tuning with the phenomenon grunge exploded in the same period. The whole album is devoted River Phoenix to the memory of the disappeared actor and to that of Kurt Cobain, to which is devoted "Let me in." In the following tour, in it covers her/it of Lausanne in Switzerland, a serious accident involves the drummer Pete Berry that you/he/she is struck by an aneurysm. This last, probably because of this terrible episode, it decides to leave the band, even if only after the recording of "New Adventures in Hi-fi", a job that represents one covers important in the career of the group and that somehow he/she closes a long chapter of its history.
The three remained components, orphan of Mills, they decide to continue to play and in 1998 they give birth to the experimental one "Up." The single one that launches the album is the involving ballad "Daysleeper", but despite the premises the new job doesn't succeed in reaching the woodpeckers of sale of the precedents: the abandonment of Mills and the experimental turn leave with the bitterness in mouth the fanses.
In 1999 the Rs.And.M. publican the good individual Great Beyond, sonorous column of the film "Hand on The Moon" and in 2001 they inaugurate the new ten with "Reveal", that he distinguishes for the tormentone "Imitation Of Life." In 2004 the group publishes a new disk, "Around The Sun", dragged by the passage "Leaving New", a sort of declaration of love of the band to the wounded soul of the city that has been victim of the attacks of September 11.
In 2008 finally the Rs.And.M. they make back a jump in the time and sfornano the album "you Accelerate", a sort of recovery of his/her own roots rock, that testifies as the band still has, to the threshold of the thirty years of career, the cloth to make music of high quality.
