The Biography.

The band is formed in 1998, from the meeting among the singer Kele Okereke, English of Nigerian origins and the guitarist Russel Lissack. The two is known in fact in Essex, and after one year, they find again him to the Reading Festival and they decide to form the group, that begins so to climb for the first time on the stage under the name Angel Range.

Subsequently, answering to an announcement on the New Musical Express unites him in 2000 the bassista Gordon Moakes. In 2002 the group modifies his/her own name in Diet and records two pieces, This is not to Competition and The Answer, defined by the magazine Drowned in Sound as the Strokeses under anfetamina that you/they meet the Cares.

 After a long search, in 2003 it unites him to the trio the drummer Matt Tong. In the same year the group starts to spread the first demo under the name of Union A to be definitive it will be nevertheless the name Bloc Party; idea comes from the so-called blocks party, American typical parties of district with exhibitions of local groups.

The group immediately gets a good comparison of public, especially thanks to a concert to the Electrowerkz in London organized by the label Dominates records, during which the Bloc Party are exhibited as group shoulder of the Franz Ferdinand.

In November of 2003 a song of the Bloc Party, The Marshalls macaws Dead, is published on a compilation, The New Cross, of the Angular Recording Corporation. Their individual of debut is however She's Hearing Voices, with the young record house Trash Aesthetics; this arouses the interest of some talents scout, and the Bloc Party have so the possibility to publish a further individual, Banquet, this time under the label Moshi Moshi, that will finally bring them to sign a contract with the Wichita Recordings in April of the 2004. The first individual with the Wichita is Little Thoughts, that reaches the top 40; Helicopter follows, that enters in the top 30.

The individuals will come therefore subsequently inserted in the album of debut Silent Alarm, gone out only February 14 th 2005 under the record label V2. The album reaches the position number 3 in the classification of the albums more sold in the United Kingdom.
In the meantime the Bloc Party write two new tracks with Paul Epworth, the producer of Silent Alarm: Hero and Two Blackberries Years. This last goes out on October 3 at the same time to the beginning of the tour in the United Kingdom.
In February of 2007 the their goes out according to album, To Weekend in the City, produced by the Jacknife Lee and it directly reaches the position number 12 of the Billboard 200 with 48 000 sold copies, while in the classification of the albums more sold in the United Kingdom it reaches the position number 2. Just one year comes later to the light Intimacy, last job of the British band, anticipated by the single Mercury. With this album, the group combines elements of art rock, experimented in Silent Alarm, with the electronics of some pieces than To Weekend in the City.
